Biography
Caroline Hazelton is a former K-12 and adult ESOL teacher, university lecturer and school leader turned doctoral student at Florida International University's Teaching and Learning program, where she studies ESOL, bilingualism and translanguaging. Her research and professional interests include translanguaging as a pedagogical approach, teacher beliefs about language across Florida and equitable assessment and curriculum for emergent multilinguals. She is currently a research assistant with PI Dr. Ryan Pontier's 2.5M National Professional Development Grant from the Office of English Language Acquisition in the U.S. Department of Education. Creating Translanguaging Classrooms (TLC) trains PreK-2nd grade general education teachers and paraprofessionals in Miami-Dade and Broward County Public Schools to create and sustain multilingual learning environments and pedagogies.
